Affordable Housing

The Parish Council would like to provide an update on its progress with regards to providing Affordable Housing in the parish, both for those who have registered on Home Search for Affordable Housing and those who may have a personal interest or concern about potential sites.

Whilst the PC Sub-Committee continues to actively review potential sites it believes that the planned update by Bath & North East Somerset Council (BANES) of the 2016-2036 Local Plan will have an impact on the availability and viability of potential sites.

The Parish Council believes that potential changes to the plan are likely to be positive, but it feels that further progress in delivering Affordable Housing in the parish is best deferred until the local authority’s draft policy on Rural Areas is announced. The Parish Council can then assess the impact and move forward with selecting a site.

This further delay was unexpected and comes as a considerable disappointment to the Parish Council. It is difficult to give an estimate of timescales at this time, but our assumption is that a site selection and public consultation is unlikely to happen for at least six months and consequently affordable housing in the parish is unlikely to be delivered before next year.

More information on the Local Plan update can be found on the BANES web site

If you have specific questions or concerns please contact the Parish Clerk (Kirsty Headlong) 0n 01761 479638, chewmagnaparishclerk@gmail.com.
