| This week schools are welcoming children back after much hard work over the summer to ensure pupils can return safely. Each school is managing its own arrangements and our public health teams are continuing to provide advice and guidance on how to be ensure the right infection control is in place and how to manage any concerns or even cases of Covid should they occur. We have also been working with transport providers and the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), which is the region’s transport authority, to ensure a smooth return to school for pupils. You can find school travel advice here With more people returning to work, visiting shops, cafes and pubs, as well as schools reopening we need to be extra vigilant. While we have not seen further escalation of Covid cases in the Midsomer Norton and Radstock area an outbreak could happen anywhere in Bath and North East Somerset. It’s in each of our hands to prevent that happening. Our public protection teams have been carrying out spot checks to make sure licensed premises are following Covid rules and are complying with licensing conditions. Where they have concerns further support will be provided. Spot checks will continue over the coming weeks. We are backing the Great British September Clean which should have been the Great British Spring Clean. Over the summer we highlighted the big rise in the amount of litter in our parks and open spaces, including more and more face coverings being dumped. Our cleansing teams and the army of volunteers who pick up other people’s litter work hard for their communities. If you want to play a part in September’s big clean up you can find details here. Parks have played a huge part in giving people the space they needed during the lockdown and they continue to be treasured spaces. None more so than Bath’s Parade Gardens which has scooped a coveted Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Award. The awards recognise the best visitor attractions across the world and are based on traveller reviews and ratings. Next week we hold our full council meeting on September 10 which you can watch on our Youtube channel. |
