Following in the footsteps of Brighton and Hove and Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset Council
\nhave teamed up with Sustainable Food Cities, the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation and local
\norganisations to help people recognize how much hidden sugar is in their food and drink and to
\nsupport organizations to provide healthier choices.<\/p>\n
Too much sugar can lead to weight gain, dental health problems, obesity and diabetes. The
\nrecommended maximum daily intake of added sugar is 7.5 teaspoons for adults and 3 – 6 teaspoons for
\nchildren. However both adults and children are having up to three times this amount.<\/p>\n
Sugar Smart B&NES is calling on a range of organisations to make Sugar Smart pledges to help make
\nthe “healthy choice, the easy choice”. Organisations that have already pledged to join the
\ninitiative include Bath City Football Club, local leisure centres, schools, universities and early
\nyear settings and the Royal United Hospital. Radstock and Westfield Big Local are also supporting
\nthe campaign and will coordinate a Sugar Smart grant scheme in Autumn 2017 to fund sugar smart
\nactivities within the communities of Westfield and Radstock.<\/p>\n
