This is a new pilot scheme to help people who cannot use or do not have access to public transport to get about and help increase the numbers of passenger journeys on Community Transport services in the area.
It will also help get communities better connected for shopping, visiting banks and post offices, as well as recreational activities during the day and evening for those who do not have access to their own vehicle. Other benefits will be to create greater access to public transport routes serving nearby towns so that people can make journeys further afield.
Volunteer Car Scheme
This volunteer run social car scheme became operational on 10th May 2010 covering Chew Magna, Stanton Drew and Norton Malreward.
Its primary purpose is to provide transport for people to access medical appointments.
The scheme has acquired a wheelchair accessible MPV.
The main criterion for use is that passengers do not have access to other suitable means of transport. Cost to users is approximately 50p per mile.
